另有長篇小說 Never Let Me Go,以複製人的故事探討「人」的危機。

The purpose of this course is twofold: to help the students gain a more sophisticated sense of the English language, and to help them develop independent thinking abilities through guided reading and discussion of thought-provoking texts. These two goals inform each other: the students should learn to articulate their thoughts in English, whereas the challenging materials are meant to stimulate their desire to do so. The reading sessions will be run mostly as discussion sessions, not lectures. The listening activities, on the other hand, are intended to keep the students current with what is happening in the world today; the materials are selected from authentic audio-visual recordings such as interviews, speeches, and newscast.
1. Regular attendance.

2. Proper preparation. Each reading session will begin with a Q & A time where you may be called on to answer questions about the text.

3. Active class participation.

4. Mini-presentation. In the first half of the semester, when we read about topical issues, you will be assigned a particular text. Prepare a 1-minute presentation on the assigned reading, commenting on the author’s argument.

5. Discussion facilitation. In the second half of the semester, when we read the novel, for the week you are signed up for, prepare one question for class discussion, which may be on any aspect of the novel. You need to explain the rationale behind the question. Send your question to the instructor by email at least twelve hours prior to class.

6. Midterm exam (vocabulary, paraphrasing, and essay questions).

7. Final exam (essay questions).
